How to get over wanting everyone to like you
As social creatures, we often find ourselves seeking validation and wanting everyone to like us, accept us, or approve of us. But what do you do when that's hindering your life? How do you get over wanting everyone to like you?
The truth is, it’s literally impossible for every person you meet to like you. Everyone is different, everyone has their own stuff going on, and everyone has their own triggers, trauma, or whatever it may be.
However, what we can do is to reflect on these things whenever we find ourselves seeking someone else’s acceptance or approval.
1. Stop being a people pleaser
Did this first point hit you hard already? Good. Being a people pleaser is so exhausting and not to mention, unrealistic. Often times we find ourselves thinking, what would so and so think if I did this? Will they judge me because I like doing this? Will they judge me if I fail at this?
"Caring too much about what other's think, stifles your ability to take risks."
The first step to get over wanting everyone to like you is by simply extinguishing the extras in your movie. Every time you hear that little voice in your head, who is talking? Is it you or is it someone else's opinion rearing its ugly head?
Stop shrinking yourself for others. Set your boundaries. Save your energy.
2. Stop being a hater
Yep, you read that right, stop being a hater. How many times have you criticized someone for doing something healthy that they love? I don't mean working out, I mean something that brings them joy and you shit on it for no reason other than you don't like it.
I find that when I'm not truly happy with myself I criticize others and later cringe at the fact that I did so. How often have you sat back and reflected on the things you've done or said towards or about someone that you didn't really mean?
Shake your mean girl out and strive to be better. After all, your vibe attracts your tribe.
3. Not everyone is going to like you and that’s okay
This may be a hard pill to swallow but not everyone is going to like you and that's okay. You don't like everyone either, do you? Typically we turn to that inner voice in our heads aka our ego and let it lead the way. SHE wants and desire acceptance from everyone but you know who doesn't? Your true soul and higher self.
When your higher self is in control, she is too busy being a badass to worry about how many people dislike her. She doesn't need external validation because she already knows she's awesome.
If you struggle with finding your inner goddess, manifest that shit. Do you remember the plant experiment? One plant was given a positive atmosphere and had positive words spoken to it daily while another plant was put into a negative environment. The plant in the positive atmosphere grew taller, had a higher germination rate, and was healthier than the plant in the negative environment. The same goes for our inner, higher selves.
Everyday look yourself in the mirror and tell yourself all the things you love about yourself. Don't get me wrong, it will be awkward as hell at first but the more consistent you become the more you will see the positive changes within yourself.
YOU are the most important person to seek acceptance from, no one else.
4. Let go of holding back
Remember, your truth is what you bring to the world. Your quirks, your talents, your gifts. They are what make you unique and attract those to you. Show the world who you truly are and throw that shit around like confetti. If you're too much for them, tell them to go find less.
